The waves are coming!
The waves in Canoa have been getting bigger, and the surf has been getting better and better. The sun seems to be coming out consistently and life is good!

After three long days of construction the new and improved Surf Shak has arrived in Canoa! We had a huge swell come through our area of the Pacific and planted a surfer (named Larry) into our front wall and his surf board actually went all the way through the Shak!
Here are some more shots of the Pre Fab roof trusses being made in the front yard. The guys put 4 trusses together and then hauled them down to the Surf Shak! The new roof will be done just in time for Saturday’s big party, Maija is turning 29, and with the newly heightened roof she will be able to dance on the bar without fear of the ceiling fan messing up her hair…that she straightened.
Almost finished!
This is a picture of the surf team, Team Surf Shak! We have a competition coming up in Pedernales that the team will be sure to have a good showing. The waves have been great in Canoa and there have been rumors of some of the team putting in 7 hour days in the water honing their skills. With the majority of our team in the Junior Class, it is great to see our kids pushing themselves.
We are currently selling Bingo Tickets and Chocolate to raise money for the Team’s travel fund for the upcoming season. We are hoping to see several of the athletes in the international competitions this coming year!
Team Surf Shak would also like to give a big thanks to Rail Road Bob (a long time residence of the area) for his very generous donation to the club! It takes help from people like Bob to really put the athletes in a position to be able to compete at the highest levels. Thanks agin Bob.
We are under construction at the Surf Shak. We are adding a newly remodeled kitchen, a new roof, and more permanent seating outside under the new awning. Below is a picture of a truss for the first “pre-fab” roof built in Ecuador, the next step is Doublewide Trailers!
We also just received the first of our Sea Kayaks for Canoa Thrills. We will be setting up tours in the next couple weeks to a variety of destinations, one being the Canoa Caves. A private beach has been sighted and will be scouted in the following days for a potential tour site.
Kayaking Coming Soon…
